Level A or Level C — Which Do You Need?

The most common question for this course. Here’s the plain-language answer — both levels are the same price at MTC.

CPR Level A

Adults only

CPR and AED training for adult victims. Covers recognition of cardiac emergencies, chest compressions, rescue breathing, and AED use for adults aged 14 and over.

Best for: General workplaces, offices, retail environments, and individuals in lower-risk settings where children are not typically present. Meets the minimum CPR standard under WSIB Regulation 1101.

CPR Level C

Adults, children, and infants

CPR and AED training for victims of all ages. Includes everything in Level A plus age-appropriate chest compressions, rescue breathing, and choking response for children and infants.

Best for: Schools, childcare workers, ECE educators, parents, coaches, fitness instructors, and anyone in healthcare-adjacent roles. Exceeds the WSIB minimum and is the recommended level for most Ontario workplaces.

Both levels are $77 at MTC Belleville. You choose your level at checkout. If you are unsure, Level C is the more versatile certification and the most commonly required across Ontario workplaces.

Traditional or Blended — How Would You Like to Learn?

Both formats result in the same Canadian Red Cross certificate. Choose based on your schedule and how you learn best.

Traditional In-Class

Complete theory and hands-on practice in a single in-person session at 11 Bay Bridge Rd, Belleville. Ideal if you prefer to learn everything in one go with an instructor present from start to finish.

  • No pre-work required
  • Theory and skills in one session
  • Best for those who prefer in-person instruction throughout

Blended

  • Online theory completed on your schedule
  • Shorter in-person skills session
  • WSIB-approved — identical certificate to traditional

Who Should Take CPR/AED in Belleville?

No prerequisites. No experience required. This course is designed for anyone who wants to be prepared to act in a cardiac emergency.

Workplace Employees

Ontario’s WSIB Regulation 1101 requires trained first aiders in every workplace. CPR/AED certification meets the CPR component of that requirement. Level C is recommended for most Ontario workplaces.

Parents & Caregivers

CPR Level C covers infant and child CPR — essential for parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Learn what to do in those first critical minutes before paramedics arrive.

Teachers, Coaches & Youth Workers

Anyone working with children should hold Level C. Many Ontario school boards, recreation programs, and sports organizations require current CPR/AED certification for staff and volunteers.

Childcare & ECE Workers

Ontario childcare regulations require current CPR and first aid certification for all childcare staff. Level C is required for registered early childhood educators and licensed childcare settings.

Fitness Instructors & Personal Trainers

Most Ontario fitness certifications and gym employer requirements include current CPR/AED certification. Level C is standard for fitness professionals working with clients of all ages.

General Public & Volunteers

No background required. Bystander CPR doubles or triples cardiac arrest survival rates. Whether you want certification for work, for your family, or simply to be prepared — this course is for you.

What the CPR/AED Course Covers

A focused, skills-based course that gives you the confidence to act in a cardiac emergency — from recognition to defibrillation.

Recognizing Cardiac Emergencies

Signs of heart attack, stroke, and cardiac arrest — and how to activate the emergency response system and begin care immediately while waiting for EMS.

Adult CPR

Hands-on compression practice with correct rate, depth, recoil, and hand placement. Both Level A and Level C include adult CPR with rescue breathing and 30:2 compression-to-ventilation ratio.

Child & Infant CPR

Age-appropriate compression depth, hand placement, ventilation technique, and compression ratios for child and infant victims. Level C only. Includes practice on child and infant training mannequins.

AED Operation

How to locate, power on, and operate an Automated External Defibrillator — including pads placement for adults and children, safety protocols, and integrating AED use with ongoing CPR.

Choking Response

Back blows and abdominal thrusts for conscious adult and child choking victims. Back blows and chest thrusts for infants. Recognition of mild versus severe airway obstruction and when to intervene.

Recovery Position

When and how to place an unresponsive, breathing victim in the recovery position while waiting for EMS — protecting the airway and reducing the risk of aspiration.

WSIB Requirements & What’s Changing in 2026

CPR/AED certification is a legal requirement for many Ontario workplaces. Here’s what you need to know about WSIB compliance — including the program update coming in Summer 2026.

Under Ontario Regulation 1101, workplaces with 5 or fewer per shift require a minimum of one worker with Emergency First Aid certification. Workplaces with 6 or more require Standard First Aid. Both include a CPR component — Level A meets the minimum; Level C is recommended and most widely required across Ontario workplaces.

WSIB is updating its First Aid Program to align with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z1210:24 standard, expected to launch Summer 2026. All current Red Cross certificates issued by approved providers remain valid under existing rules until the new program launches. MTC is a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner.

WSIB does not accept 100% online CPR or first aid certification. Only blended (online theory + in-person skills) or traditional in-class training is recognized. Both formats offered by MTC at 11 Bay Bridge Rd, Belleville result in a valid, WSIB-approved Red Cross certificate.
